Jair Bolsonaro has been arrested after authorities found he posed a concrete flight risk while under house arrest.

The one-time leader was found guilty of orchestrating a government overthrow in September and given more than over two decades in incarceration, but he continued under house arrest pending appeals.

High Court Judge Justice Moraes said the action to imprison the elderly politician was a preventative measure after recent developments were revealed.

This involved attempting to break his electronic bracelet and a call for a public vigil that could "allow for a potential flight.

In a document approving the arrest, the judge said intelligence from the facility tracking Bolsonaro's house arrest suggested the one-time head of state's aim to disable the surveillance device to secure accomplishment in his flight.
