The boxing legend’s son Campbell delivered an touching tribute in his first public comments since his father’s death.
Expressions of sympathy been shared from across the boxing community and further afield following the loss of the former world welterweight titleholder, that was discovered at his residence recently at the age of mid-forties.
“Words can’t express how I feel,” shared his son alongside a series of family photos.
“Those who knew us always remarked I resembled your twin – there’s a truer word uttered. Forever idolized you in each aspect of life.”
He added: “It’s impossible to describe how much I’m going to miss the laughs we shared and all of the special memories, which I will remember always. Simply can’t fathom we can no longer have another. Love you, Dad.”
Local law enforcement stated that the sports legend had been found on his property based in Hyde. They clarified that there were zero unusual factors involved in the incident.
Following in the footsteps of his parent, Campbell too pursued a career in professional fighting, taking his professional introductory fight in recent years. He subsequently withdrew from the sport earlier this year.
The following day, the loved ones of the athlete issued a message conveying that they were “deeply moved” by the generous outpouring of support and kindness directed their way.
“Our loved one was not only than a titleholder. To us, he was just ‘Richard,’ our child. A loving father, elder, and family member, and a genuine confidant to countless people,” the message stated.
“He possessed a spirit as generous as his grin, and his generosity, charm, and loyalty influenced all those lucky enough to know him.
“To the wider world, Richard will always be remembered as one of boxing’s top champions – a person who dedicated everything inside the fights and wore his feelings on his sleeve.”
